Woke up Saturday 9/6 to no water in my house. Researched online and found Proline had 24hr emergency service and really good reviews. They were prompt to get back to me and get someone scheduled to come out that day. That is the end of the good. They came out, could not figure out what the issue was. Noticed a small leak on a backflow assembly near the water meter so they thought maybe it was that. They quoted me $2700 to replace it. Wanting to get water, I agreed to have them do the repair without looking into it further. They had to go get the part in Portland, I am in Camas, they got back an in about an hour had the new part installed. Total time maybe 3hrs so far including diagnostic time. Well that did not fix the issue. They went around another hour or so trying to figure out the problem with me while I was walking them thru how the system was setup as it is a bit different. They did not seem to understand. Basically water goes from street to tank underground, then is pumped to pressure tank in house. Tank was full, therefore logic says issue is from storage tank to house. They ended up running a garden hose from the new backflow to the pressure tank so at least I had water in the house, and left for the day saying they would get back to me to setup appt to come back. After researching I found the exact part they replaced is $600-1000 depending where they got it. They charged $2700 to install it. I understand a markup and making a profit, but that is RIDICULOUS. Then there was $200 to come out and $75 for diagnositc, I get that an have no issues, however then they charged another $255 to inspect to try to find the issue, $155 to "test" the backflow they installed, as apparently testing is not part of the overpriced install, then 3.5% for using a card to pay. After all that and taxes total cost nearly $3,800 to fix nothing. Then I did not hear back from them until Tuesday when I received a quote for $3900 to dig two holes near the backflow and near the storage tank to look for a part I told them does not exist. Also, since the issue is from tank to house, where they wanted to dig was to look at meter to tank, so I knew it would not fix the problem. Obviously, I declined and told them everything above, never heard a peep. Issue turned about to be bad pressure tank($500) and pump control box($0 as people who fixed it just swapped to the other one that used to be on the well). Neither of these were even checked by Proline other than visually. Took the people who fixed it less than 10 min to find the issue. I was fixed up within 2hrs, including fixing the water pipe Proline cut to tap in the hose, and for under $1000. Would not recommend.
Response to reply: No, that is not what the previous owner said, obviously only half of what was said was listened to. He said it tee'd into the line from the well and then into the tank and then went from tank to house. But since that is not normal, I guess that part did not want to be believed/listened to. The well is not in use, just the storage tank. Days later I contacted you, since I had yet to hear from you on getting someone back out. Then I replied that I was declining your ridiculous quote to come out and dig 2 holes, for $3900, to look for something you had been told did not exist. Never once said I found the company who set up the city system as I have no clue who that is. Ok, so having a warehouse open on a Saturday for a part explains how a part available for at MOST $1000 cost me $2700? The install was maybe an hour and the drive to get it, lets be extremely generous and say 2 hours (Camas to Portland, should be half that) So I guess your weekend labor rate is about $600/hr or you are doing 50% markup on a part and $200/hr. 7 hours on the job, 4+ of that was the tech on the phone with your shop walking around. I do appreciate that you were quick to get on site.

Pros - Job was completed on day reported. The plumber was efficient and left the area clean.
Cons - The job was clearing a medium size drain line that runs from one side of our house to the other. The job took about an hour and cost more than 800.00. There were no materials used so this was a labor only charge (after hours charge even through it started around 4:00, snaking about 60 feet, and cleanup).
Before the job started the gentleman tried to upsell the service to include videoing the line or using a hydro-jet instead of a snake. Each option would add hundreds over the amount we paid. He stated that if the snake didn't work then the hydro-jet would be needed and suggested that we would be over 1,800.00 essentially suggesting that we should just go ahead and spend more for the hydro-jet service.
Before he left, the technician checked our house water pressure which had nothing to do with the service call. He stated that we were over pressure along with 70% of all homes he visits. He wanted to upsell an in-line valve for another 1,250.00. If you are interested in dumping thousands for each service call then this is the guy for you.
