I was having a basement floor drain back-up, for a few years. Kept having it power rodded (TCM) and it kept having issues. I got a referral for Heffel & Sons by a local company (Building Waters) to get a quote. Curt came out while i had the pipe scoped. He gave me a reasonable quote after discussing the options. We got it scheduled. The crew arrived and got to work. Upon getting the area dug up, they found an 8ft long copper grounding rod going right through my sewer pipe that must have been there for awhile. They replaced my 6" clay pipe with a couple PVC 45 degree elbows and got things fixed right up. I would highly recommend them. From Curt, to his wife and crew members. All great people to meet and work with!

My village added city sewer and water lines in front of my house so we decided to hook up to it. I asked a bunch of people in my area about any references they had, and a large number of the told me to contact Curt Heffel. He allegedly has an amazing reputation as is The Guy to have this work done.
Because of those references, I contacted Curt in spring of 2017 (~2 1/2 years ago) about connecting my house to the new city water/sewer line. He indicated he could both do the excavating and plumbing to fully hook my house up. He was initially quick to stop by to get the details and give me a quote. That's when things started to become difficult.
As summer went on, my calls were ignored or never followed up on. Eventually it got to the point in September of 2017 where I called and said do the project by the end of the month or I'll find someone else. Only then did Curt finally show up to do the work. He did manage to hook me up to the sewer, but I misunderstood the city and thought they added the water lateral, when they did not. Because there was none, it required Curt to come back to finish the job. This delay was obviously my fault but then he kept promising he'd be back later to finish the job. It never happened in 2017 and then winter came.
Come spring of 2018, they would call me on their own to indicate that they'd complete the job, but for obvious reasons needed the ground to dry out. That was fine but meant that they couldn't finish the job until summer due to having to excavate next to the road. Once summer hit, they stopped calling on their own and wouldn't follow up with most of my calls. Curt promised he'd finish the job, though. Eventually we got to November and at 6 pm the weekend before Thanksgiving, Curt called my work line to say he'll be out all of the next week and that my job is now too much work for him so he's not going to do it. This is obviously something he could have told me in spring or summer!!!
It took me a lot of phone calls to find a new excavator and plumber, but yesterday I finally finished my project.
I gave Curt the 2 stars, instead of 1, for 2 reasons. His quality and costs were great.
Truthfully if you have an emergency call, I believe Curt would take care of you.
If you have some scheduled work that needs to get done, I would recommend you look at a different person than Curt. The only reason he did any of the work was me threatening to find someone else. In addition, he wasted an entire year promising to finish the job then bailed right as winter approached, further delaying me. His lack of professionalism and broken promises is why I wouldn't recommend anyone use Curt Heffel for any project you have.

I called Curt at Heffel & Son to take a look at my basement problem. He recommended I have a second opinion and that is exactly what I did. I was told by another company out of Illinois that I had a break in the sewer line. So Heffel & Son referred me to T.C.M. to have my sewer line inspected with a live camera. Not only did I take Curts advice on top of that he was exactly righ. There was no break in my line. I just need a thorough cleaning with the hydrojet done again by T.C.M. saving me $4,000.Curt came out twice and was extremely professional. A very friendly company that cares about it's reputation. Curt never charged me a dime.
Mary and Curt are truly a team that cares about their fellow citizens. I am truly grateful to everyone involved.
Sincerely, Me. Christie
