If you value clear communication and competence, avoid Black Tie Plumbing. Our experience was a catalog of errors, from deceptive pricing to a botched timeline.
After foundation work from their partner company resulted in four sewer leaks, we met with Ruben on December 22nd to verify the leaks and work needed. He explicitly confirmed twice that two quoted figures were for different levels of work. The next day, the quote arrived with the costs combined, effectively doubling the price by several thousand dollars. After we expressed our concern, Ruben was apologetic and said he misspoke.
We were told work could not start until after the holidays.
What was scheduled as an 8-day job turned into a multi-week ordeal:
1/16: Work began after Xavier scheduled with short notice calling wed 1/13 at 4:25 to schedule for Friday. We had to make many arrangements with work to be available but made it happen.
1/21: After supposedly fixing the leaks, the post-plumbing test failed. They had only fixed 3 out of 4 leaks. They stated they didn't have the correct supplies to finish and it was already afternoon.
1/22: Plumbers arrived with the supplies and realized a "miscommunication" meant excavation was a foot short, delaying work further on fixing the 4th leak. The excavation would have to come out again
1/23-1/30 Weather delays due to freezing temps and us exhausting the arrangements we made with work resulted in days of no work
1/31: Excavation was set to arrive from 830 to 9am. Showed up about an hour after. I reached out to Jessica, who had been a point of contact for updates, but no reponse after I asked when the crew would arrive. The excavation crew took an entire day with zero updates from the office or onsite plumbers. No work on sundays.
2/2: Work was finally completed—nearly two weeks past the original end date. Also apparently the city verifies work by FaceTime? That's odd. We had a leak fixed by a different company and someone came out that was 3rd party to verify the work.
Despite the constant errors, no supervisor ever reached out. Though a supervisor was seen onsite they stayed in their vehicles and when they went in the car they never introduced themselves. The supervisor was also late more than once causing the crew to just wait outside.
To top it off, the company charged the remaining balance to our card without authorization or communication, preventing us from using our preferred payment method.
For a company claiming 25 years of experience, this was "amateur hour." They are disorganized, not transparent about pricing, and lack basic accountability.

No one wants to hear they have a slab leak but Black tie made it bearable. Pedro and Ruben were very nice and explained everything very well. Michael, who fixed the leak and Joshua, that helped with the city inspector were both great and patient with me and all my questions. Even the contractors that did all the hard labor were very respectful. Could not be happier with the work.

Blake from black tie plumbing is my go to guy when plumbing issues come up. Not only is he cordial and professional but a very likable person. This is the second time I have used him but I asked for him when I scheduled and they didn’t disappoint. Awesome company and I will use again and again thanks Blake.
